Project Details

After three decades of exposure to Colorado’s changing weather conditions, the original builder-grade windows in this Golden home were beginning to show their age. The homeowners noticed drafts throughout the house and could feel air movement near several openings, especially during colder months.

They wanted replacement windows that would improve energy efficiency without changing the clean, contemporary appearance of the home. Maintaining the large glass openings and mountain views remained a priority throughout the project.

Vinyl sliding and picture windows were selected in a brown exterior finish with white interiors to complement the home’s existing architecture while giving the exterior a more updated appearance.

Large Replacement Windows Bring in More Natural Light

Several of the original openings featured oversized glass configurations and custom shapes, including large triple-slider windows paired with pentagon-shaped picture windows near the vaulted ceilings. The updated window combinations preserved the dramatic wall of glass while improving overall performance throughout the home.

The homeowners also chose windows with argon-insulated Low-E glass to help reduce drafts and improve indoor comfort at the home’s high-altitude location.

One standout feature was the addition of hidden screens on the sliding windows. When the windows are closed, the screens remain tucked away from view, allowing for cleaner sightlines and a more open feel across the large living spaces.

Contemporary Window Designs Improve Curb Appeal

The updated windows noticeably changed the appearance of the exterior. Over time, the original builder-grade frames had faded significantly, making the home look dated from the outside. The darker brown replacement frames created a stronger visual contrast against the siding and helped modernize the overall look of the property.

Inside the home, larger unobstructed glass areas helped bring more natural light into the living room, stairways and bedrooms while maintaining expansive views of the surrounding trees and hillside landscape.

Fiberglass Sliding Patio Doors Improve Access to Outdoor Living Areas

In addition to the replacement windows, the homeowners also updated two aging patio doors located on the rear elevation of the home. The original doors had become less efficient over time and no longer matched the refreshed appearance of the updated windows.

Replacement sliding patio doors were selected for their durable fiberglass construction and expansive glass panels that help maintain natural light throughout the lower and main living spaces. Positioned beneath the elevated deck and along the walkout basement, the new patio doors create easier access to the outdoor areas while preserving the open views of the surrounding hillside landscape. The slimmer frames and larger glass areas also help the spaces feel brighter and more connected to the outdoors year-round.
