Window Replacement and Sliding Patio Door Replacement in Keystone

In mountain homes, replacement windows often need to do more than improve efficiency. They also need to complement natural materials that define the home's interior. 

For this Keystone condominium, the homeowners selected replacement wood replacement windows with natural stain pine interiors and brown EnduraClad® aluminum exteriors. The combination maintains the warm appearance of real wood inside while providing a durable exterior finish designed to withstand changing mountain weather. 

The replacement included double-hung windows in the main bedroom, guest bedroom and kitchen. The new windows closely matched the existing openings, allowing the home to retain its familiar appearance while refreshing worn components with modern materials and insulated glass. The project also incorporated natural stain pine interior trim to coordinate with the home's existing wood finishes.

One of the most important decisions for this project wasn't immediately visible. Every replacement window was specified with AdvancedComfort Low-E insulating glass that was air-filled and manufactured for high-altitude conditions. 

Homes in mountain communities like Keystone experience intense sunlight, large daily temperature swings and significant seasonal weather changes. Selecting glass engineered for higher elevations helps insulating glass units perform as intended while supporting year-round comfort. 

The homeowners also chose windows without grilles, creating larger uninterrupted glass areas that frame the surrounding forest views. Matte black cam-action locks provide a subtle contrast against the natural wood interiors without distracting from the overall design.

The project also included replacing an existing triple sliding patio door leading from the kitchen to the deck. 

The new triple sliding patio door features a fixed panel, venting center panel and fixed panel configuration. Its large glass area helps preserve views of the surrounding landscape while providing convenient access to the outdoor living space visible from the kitchen and living areas. The homeowners selected tempered AdvancedComfort Low-E insulating glass, a brown aluminum-clad exterior, natural stain pine interior and matte black hardware that coordinates with the replacement windows throughout the home. 

A full sliding screen with TuffScreen® material was also included, allowing fresh mountain air into the home while helping resist everyday wear.

Although the finished project appears straightforward, the installation required thoughtful planning. 

The windows were installed as full-frame replacements, allowing the installer to properly prepare each opening with flashing tape, insulation and new trim before installing the replacement units square, level and plumb. Full-frame installation also made it possible to incorporate standard four-sided jamb extensions that matched the home's wall depth and natural wood interior finishes. 

The patio door required additional care because masonry met one side of the existing opening. According to the project notes, the installation team planned to leave the existing trim along the left side of the opening in place whenever possible to avoid disturbing the adjacent masonry. New trim was carefully fitted to create a clean transition while minimizing disruption to the surrounding construction.

Rather than changing the home's appearance, this project focused on preserving what already worked. 

Natural wood interiors continue the cabin-inspired aesthetic found throughout the home, while updated insulated glass, durable exterior cladding and carefully planned installation details provide improvements that aren't immediately visible but can make a meaningful difference in everyday comfort and long-term durability. 

The result is a replacement project that respects the home's original character while preparing it for many more years of mountain living.
