Chesterfield, MO

1999
Area of Home Involved:
Front Entrance
Products Used:
The original front entry doors on this Chesterfield home had started to cause ongoing water intrusion issues, and the homeowners were ready for an update that felt more in line with the rest of the home’s architecture. The replacement project focused on improving performance while also creating a cleaner, more balanced look for the tall foyer and stone-and-brick exterior.
The patio doors feature larger divided-light glass panels and a dark brown exterior finish that works naturally with the home’s brick and stone exterior. Compared to the previous entry system, the updated design feels cleaner and less ornate while allowing more natural light into the foyer.
Hinged Patio Door Replacement Designed to Improve Energy Efficiency
One of the biggest goals of this replacement project was stopping ongoing water intrusion issues at the front entry while also making the space feel more comfortable throughout the year.
The new doors feature Advanced Comfort glass with argon gas between the panes, helping reduce heat transfer and improve energy efficiency near the front entrance.
Because the home has a large, exposed front entry, the project also included a full tear-out installation so the opening could be properly sealed and updated rather than working around the existing frame.
Front Entry Door Replacement Chosen to Address Water Intrusion
One of the biggest goals of this project was improving protection against water leaks around the front entry. Because the entrance is large and exposed, proper sealing and installation details were especially important.
The replacement project included a full tear-out installation so the opening could be properly updated and sealed rather than working around the existing frame.
The new doors also feature Advanced Comfort glass with argon gas between the panes to help improve energy efficiency and reduce heat transfer near the front entrance throughout the year.
Hinged Patio Doors to Brighten the Entryway
The new hinged patio doors feature larger divided-light glass panels that allow more natural light into the foyer while still maintaining the traditional look of the home.
Compared to the previous entry system, the updated design feels simpler and more balanced. The dark brown exterior finish works naturally with the home’s brick and stone façade, helping the new doors feel integrated with the rest of the exterior rather than standing apart from it.
Custom Door Replacement for a Two-Story Front Entrance
Because the home features a tall two-story entryway, the replacement doors were sized specifically for the existing opening to maintain the proportions of the front elevation.
The homeowners also selected an unfinished interior wood surface so the doors could coordinate with the home’s existing interior finishes and trim. Nickel hardware added a subtle contrast against the darker exterior color palette.
The completed project gave the homeowners a front entrance that feels brighter, cleaner and more connected to the rest of the home while also improving energy efficiency and protection against water intrusion.
