Project Details

For this Kirkwood project, the homeowners wanted the new addition to feel connected to the original home rather than visually separate from it. Matching the existing architectural style played a major role in the window selection process, especially in a municipality known for detailed building and design reviews.

Pella Lifestyle Series windows were selected to help maintain the traditional character of the home while bringing more natural light into the expanded living spaces. Simulated divided-light grilles and white interior finishes complemented the original design details throughout the home.

Large picture windows and custom-shaped windows beneath the vaulted ceiling became a focal point in the new living area. The combination of fixed glass and operable windows helped maximize daylight while still providing ventilation throughout the space.

Large Windows Brighten the Main Living Area

One of the most noticeable features of the addition is the expansive window wall overlooking the backyard. The large glass openings help draw attention to the vaulted ceiling while creating a stronger connection to the outdoor views.

The homeowners also wanted the addition to feel comfortable year-round, so energy efficiency remained an important consideration during the project. The new windows help improve natural light without overwhelming the space with heat gain, making the open-concept living area feel bright and functional throughout the day.

Pella St. Louis worked closely with the contractor and architect to navigate local building code requirements while keeping the project aligned with the homeowner’s goals. By slightly adjusting some window heights, the team was able to meet egress requirements and create a safer, more functional design without compromising the overall appearance of the home.

Custom Window Configurations Create a More Open Feel

Throughout the addition, thoughtfully sized windows help each room feel larger and more connected to the surrounding landscape. Smaller double-hung windows bring balance and symmetry to the side walls, while oversized picture windows create unobstructed backyard views in the main gathering spaces.

The finished project added meaningful living space, improved curb appeal and created a brighter, more inviting interior for the homeowners.
