Project Details

Yellow Springs, an eastern village of Dayton, is a perfect place to raise a family with reasonable living costs and a close-knit community. The homes in the area have mid-century modern features with wood accents.

In hopes of embracing their wooden details, these Ohio homeowners were looking for an upgrade to replace the existing vinyl sliding window above their sink. They wanted a new kitchen window to match the existing cabinet stain, creating a more cohesive look across the space. We helped these clients select a window to meet their design needs and let in more light.

Custom Bay Window Matches Wood Cabinetry

Transforming the space with a stained bay window brings a fresh, traditional look while honoring the charm of the home’s original wood accents. The combination of three windowpanes creates the bay window design. With the help of our team, this window installation became the focal point of the Ohio kitchen.

To complement the original wood beautifully, the homeowners knew they wanted a window stain to match the finish of their existing cabinetry. The homeowners selected a window color and aluminum cladding, enriching the mid-century modern design. Our variety of finishes and colors make wood windows a favorite to blend with other elements in the home. Wood is our most customizable material, offering custom colors and finish options not provided by fiberglass or vinyl.

Bay Window Over Sink Opens Kitchen Space

The original kitchen, with its vinyl sliding window, had limited natural light shining in. Our team recommended a bay window to brighten the space with the addition of three glass panes instead of the original two sliding panes. Bay windows offer the benefit of angled glass, allowing light to enter at all times of the day. This abundance of natural light flows into the kitchen, creating an open and inviting space. By protruding from the home, the bay window creates additional interior space, which these homeowners use to display plants and decor behind the sink. This adds both functionality and aesthetic appeal to the kitchen.

The visual separation between the home and backyard disappears with the bay window. Now, the Midwesterners can watch the seasons turn through their new window and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

Awning Windows Bring the Outdoors in While Maximizing Convenience

In the kitchen, we installed white awning windows above the sink. This strategic placement combines practicality with style. Awning windows, which open outward from the bottom, are ideal for this location as they're easy to operate and provide excellent ventilation — perfect for airing out the kitchen after cooking. They also allow for an unobstructed view of the outdoors while working in the kitchen, connecting the home with the lush landscape of their backyard.
