Custom Windows & Patio Doors Enhance Modern Berkshire Farmhouse

Set against the backdrop of the Berkshire Hills in Williamstown, MA, this newly built farmhouse combines rural charm with modern design. Local architects envisioned a family retreat that would embrace mountain views and natural light while standing up to the challenges of a high-elevation climate. To bring their vision to life, our team provided Pella® Reserve™ — Traditional windows and patio doors tailored to both aesthetic and performance needs.

One of the home’s most striking features is its five rooftop cupolas. The architects wanted these to flood the upper level with sunlight while echoing the unique roofline. Our team designed oversized custom windows—over eight feet wide and six feet tall—with pitched bottoms to align seamlessly with the roof. The result: a distinctive “lighthouse look” that enhances the home’s East Coast character and becomes a defining architectural centerpiece.

Modern farmhouse style often calls for grouped windows with slim grilles, black finishes, and expansive glass. This home embraces those principles with a mix of double-hung and awning windows paired with large patio doors. The black window frames create striking contrast against the light exterior, while the expansive glass blurs the line between indoors and outdoors—perfectly framing the rolling Berkshire landscape.

Performance was just as important as design. Each window was crafted from wood with a black interior stain and finished with extruded aluminum cladding on the exterior. This durable combination provides resistance against chalking, fading, rot, and moisture damage—critical in the variable weather conditions of the Berkshires. With advanced protection and energy efficiency built in, these wood windows ensure the home is as comfortable as it is beautiful.
