Black Windows Complement Wood-Shingle Home in Cotuit

Wood windows and doors enhance indoor-outdoor connection on Cape Cod.

Tim Luff, a principal at Archi-Tech Associates, specializes in designing custom residential homes. He understands the importance of keeping properties’ unique and lasting character. Tim only collaborates with the best partners to make these visions a reality. That’s why when it came time to update his historic, wood-shingled home in Cotuit, he teamed up with his trusted window and door experts at Pella Southern New England. Luff envisioned modern windows and doors that would complement his home’s rustic exterior. He was confident in our team’s ability to propose a window and door solution that would meet his expectations.

Black Windows and Doors Complement Cotuit Natural Surroundings

Homes in Cotuit, MA are amongst beautiful, luscious landscapes from deep wood forests to small private beaches. This home is found inland off Rusty Marsh Road, inspiring Luff and his team to design a home that complements its natural surroundings. Our team suggested using Pella® Reserve™ — Contemporary windows and doors for their clean lines, minimal profiles and expansive glass panels. They add a sleek and sophisticated look to the home without taking attention away from the gorgeous trees surrounding the home.

These wood windows have a SeaCoast EnduraClad® protective exterior finish which helps to combat high salt exposure, keeping the frames in good condition. On the inside, the frames were stained black to nicely contrast against the exposed wood features throughout the home. Luff was pleased with how the dark color choice complements the existing features and landscape, while adding a modern touch.

“Windows tell the story of the site and what’s there.”

-Tim Luff

Kitchen Casement Windows Breathe Fresh Air into Dining Spaces

The heart of this home is the kitchen. It’s the ideal gathering spot to cook and enjoy meals. To keep the space cool and comfortable, black casement windows were used to maximize fresh air. Casement windows are hinged at one side and open outwards, letting in an abundance of fresh air and sunlight. This intentional design captures the coastal breezes, naturally cooling the kitchen during the scorching summer months. With narrow sightlines and expansive glass panels, these windows also allow for unobstructed views to the outside, making everyday household chores in the kitchen more enjoyable.

Hinged Patio Door Adds Function & Style to Cotuit Home

Functional Benefits:

As an architect, Tim Luff designs homes with functionality in mind. The hinged patio door enhances the indoor-outdoor connection by creating easy access to the outdoors. Its large glass panel also brings in ample light, brightening the entrance.

Design Benefits:

The black hinged patio door complements the home’s aesthetic appeal with its sleek design. The dark wooden frames add a touch of sophistication and architectural interest to the interior and exterior. Its modern design enhances the wood-shingle siding while nicely contrasting against the white walls inside.

“Pella is a part of the team,” says Luff. “I don’t think I’ve worked with any other window company that would get me the type of service that I can get with Pella.”

Overall, Tim Luff was extremely pleased with the team’s exceptional service and attention to detail. He loved how the solutions paired well with the home’s existing features while adding a modern design statement. Our team delivered exceptional, on-time service and installation, making us the preferred window and door partner for our client.
