Matching Hinged Door and Double-Hung Windows Refresh Andover Cottage

Often referred to as the “Home of America”, Andover, MA is steeped in history and traditional cottage and colonial style homes can be seen throughout town. What was once a small New England town centered around the prestigious Phillips Academy, the local mill and farming communities, now is a bustling destination for commuters from Boston.

When the owner of this charming cottage was ready to give an entrance a refresh, they came straight to Pella. They had already used several Pella products throughout the rest of the home and wanted a look that would match perfectly.

To match the other windows and doors in the home, the homeowner selected a hinged French patio door flanked by two cottage-style double-hung windows. Instead of using a door with traditional sidelights, or tall narrow fixed windows on either side of the door, they chose to add more character, natural light and the opportunity for ventilation with double-hung windows. The cottage windows feature two movable sashes that can be raised and lowered depending on the homeowner’s preference.

Cottage windows and their hallmark grilles add architectural interest and preserve the classic charm of the home. The small top sash features a three-over-one design that gives the appearance of individual windowpanes.
