Project Details

Originally built in the late 1700s, this Boalsburg, Pennsylvania home features historic details and charming character. The homeowners wanted to add a sunroom and replace the older windows around the house. They turned to Pella to supply both new construction and replacement windows and patio doors that would uphold the history of the home while giving a nod to more contemporary vibes.

Historical Window and Door Details Blend Sunroom Addition with Existing Home

The primary challenge in this project was tying in a new sunroom addition with a home that is hundreds of years old. It was important to the homeowners that the new space, which features Pella® Reserve™– Traditional windows and patio doors, feel cohesive across the home. Ultimately selected because of the historical elements this product line exhibits, these sunroom windows offer uncompromised attention to detail.

Customizable Wood Windows and Doors Offer Unparalleled Designs

In addition to the historical details of Pella Reserve windows and patio doors, the homeowners also appreciated being able to customize their products. Wood windows and doors offer the most customizable designs. There are more features and options than other materials, meaning the homeowners could personalize the products to achieve the look they desired.

They opted to add Integral Light Technology® grilles which create the most authentic look of true-divided-light windows and doors, without sacrificing on the energy performance that’s crucial for a sunroom. The grilles are permanently bonded to the inside and outside of the window glass with nonglare spacers in between. This design casts a realistic shadow that creates the effect of individual, historic windowpanes. Even the spoon-lock hardware is historically authentic, characterizing traditional style windows. The homeowners further personalized their wood patio doors and windows by selecting black as the color. Choosing black windows and black patio doors helped them achieve a more contemporary, sleek aesthetic in the sunroom without compromising on the historical elements their home required.

The hinged French patio doors swing open to the backyard, furthering the sophisticated feel of the historic home. With natural sunlight flooding the room and easy access to the outdoor entertaining space, these sunroom windows and doors create a wonderfully bright and inviting room to spend time in with family and friends.
