Pella Fiberglass vs. Jeld-Wen Vinyl
Rigid Strength vs. Flexible Plastic
When it comes to selecting the right window material, you need the best. See how our proprietary fiberglass outperforms Jeld-Wen vinyl.
Pella Fiberglass Beats Out Jeld-Wen Vinyl
Pella’s exclusive fiberglass material is the strongest material for windows and patio doors, engineered for lasting durability.9
3-point bend testing performance based on testing 7 samples of each material using ASTM D790 test methodology.
The Strongest Material vs. Bendable Vinyl
Look behind the scenes and see what makes up Pella’s proprietary fiberglass and Jeld-Wen’s vinyl.
Pella Fiberglass, strong thermoset
Our exclusive fiberglass is an incredibly strong thermoset material, meaning it won’t melt or breakdown when exposed to environmental temperature swings. It won’t dent, bend or break as much as the competition and can handle the most extreme heat and cold.32
Jeld-Wen, flexible thermoplastic
Unlike fiberglass, vinyl is a thermoplastic material, meaning that when the plastic is heated it becomes a soft material and it hardens upon cooling. This material is more prone to bending, sagging and bowing in the heat of the summer and can become brittle in cold winter months.

We decided to take things to extremes to demonstrate how well our exclusive fiberglass material holds up to impact. We dropped a 10-pound bowling ball onto a section of our fiberglass sliding patio door jamb lineal (the frame of your door) – from seven feet in the air – to see what would happen.
Designed to stand up to everyday wear and tear, Pella Impervia products offer an on-trend color palette, including black, and feature our latest innovation, the Easy Slide Operator window hardware, winner of Best in Show at the 2021 International Builders Show.
