Patrick and Mary Hatcliff have built a reputation on attending to every detail of their award-winning custom home builds and renovations. When it comes to their doors and windows, they leave it all up to Pella. “From our first call to our sales rep, Marti, to the actual installations, we know Pella has us covered,” explained Mary.
“Pella’s quality is premium, and their people stand behind the products and installation.”

Sold on the Basics: Service and Integrity
For the past decade, Hatcliff Construction has almost exclusively relied on Pella for their door and window needs, however, it wasn’t always that way. So, what caused them to make the change?
Turns out that Patrick and Mary had a builder friend who recommended they give Pella a try based on the quality of the products and how supportive their rep was.
“It all started with our rep,” Mary explained. “He didn’t just tell us — he showed us — that he was committed to our business. And he’s always been there for us since day one.”
“There will be issues with every build. It’s part of the business,” she continued. “But our Pella team always delivers solutions, not problems…We just call Marti. And we know that we don’t need to worry about it.”
Products That Stand the Test of Time
For over 30 years, the Hatcliffs have built their name by standing behind their commitment to detail and build quality. “When we build a house for a client, we’ll be there for the life of that home,” Mary explained. “Or until we’re not building anymore.”
“We want to put in windows that we know will be great in 20 years. I could probably say 50, but I don’t think I’ll be around that long,” she joked.
While a majority of their high-end builds call for Pella Reserve — Contemporary products, Patrick and Mary have also recommended Pella® Lifestyle Series as well. It’s Pella’s overall attention to detail on build quality across lines that caught the Hatcliffs’ eye. “Without hesitation, that’s another reason why we choose Pella.”
The Hatcliffs recommend Pella for more than insulation values and aesthetics. They prefer the brand because they are simply “the best for construction.”
“They open and close well. They’re solid, heavy and the build is consistent from line to line … the quality always holds up,” Mary confirmed.
This is the highest compliment coming from a builder who calls out windows as her favorite part of every job. “I love windows, especially large window walls with a great view. They were the most important part of our lake house remodel. We wanted to create rooms that were basically all windows. For me, that’s what made it a great project.”
And the Hatcliffs know what makes a great build. For the seventh consecutive year, they’ve been named a member of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program — an honor for the select group of the South’s finest home builders.
Custom Window Installation for Custom Homes
As every builder will tell you, there are efficiencies to streamlining workflow. Fewer contractors to manage equals more time savings, which is why the Hatcliffs decided to leave all window and door installation to Pella’s install team.
“These teams install Pella day in and day out. And it shows. They know every product and install them properly the first time, which takes the guesswork out for us. Plus, we know we’re covered by the warranty,” Patrick said. “Our rep schedules the install and is very thorough with communicating dates and expectations. It’s made our job so much smoother.”
The Hatcliffs put that expertise to the test. “We do a lot of huge windows,” Patrick continued. “Big doors. Oversized sliders. Window walls. A recent build even included custom windows for an elevator. We know Pella can handle all of it.”
The bottom line is that in-depth product knowledge also impacts their bottom line. “In the long run, it saves time and money because it’s done right the first time.”

Installed by Specialists
“In the long run, it saves money because it’s done right the first time,” says Mary on their choice to use Pella installers. “They install Pella day in and day out ... and it shows.” While it streamlines their processes, the real difference for Mary is the fact that “they always stand behind their installs.”
Custom Sizes
“I mean, I have not had a request that they couldn’t deliver on,” explains Mary. And the Hatcliffs’ custom builds often push the envelope – from a 10-ft. tall by 20-ft. wide bi-fold window wall to a recent set of windows for an elevator.
Pella Support
Most important is the service that comes with every order. “There are issues with every house. But with our doors and windows, we know that we never have to worry. Pella will handle it. Our rep always does what’s needed to make things right.”
