Project Details

In this serene neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia, these homeowners wanted to convert their screened-in porch into an enclosed sunroom. This would allow them to enjoy the space throughout the year, instead of just when the weather allowed. They turned to Pella of Virginia to install large windows that would preserve the panoramic views of this space while enhancing comfort and durability.

Windows Enclose Screened Porch for Year-Round Comfort

Given that the existing porch was screened in, the space was directly exposed to Virginia’s varying climate. When the weather wasn’t nice, the homeowners were not able to enjoy this area. By transforming the screened-in porch to a sunroom, they can enjoy the space all year, regardless of the season. The porch is now enclosed in glass, helping to regulate the indoor temperatures. This keeps the sunroom comfortable and usable even during the hottest summer days and coldest winter nights. The abundance of natural light streaming through the windows creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Whether sipping morning coffee or unwinding with a book in the afternoon sun, this new sunroom offers a peaceful retreat for these homeowners to enjoy the beauty of nature from the comfort of the indoors.

Black Sunroom Windows Modernize Home

The original screens surrounding this porch offered a panoramic view of the wooded backyard. The homeowners enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of nature and didn’t want to lose this visibility. When choosing sunroom windows, we recommended large fiberglass ones that span the height of the room. Pella Impervia picture windows can be built as large as 70 square feet. With no grilles and thin black frames, these expansive windows allow for maximum visibility and unobstructed sightlines of the backyard. Our team also installed casement and awning windows that easily open so the homeowners can still enjoy the fresh air and the sounds of nature in their enclosed room. All the new windows feature black frames that add modern style to the room. Against the light-colored interior walls and white exterior siding, these black modern windows create bold contrast and contemporary design interest.

Durable Fiberglass Windows Withstand Richmond Weather

Throughout the year, Richmond experiences heat, humidity, rain, snow, storms and more. These elements were starting to take a toll on the original screens around this porch. The new fiberglass windows are known for their strength and durability. They are built to stand up to Virginia’s most severe weather. Pella’s proprietary fiberglass material is the strongest material for windows, engineered for lasting durability.9 This material will never rot or corrode, and it resists dents, bends and breaks. This renovated sunroom space will offer long-lasting beauty and functionality for years to come.

This sunroom conversion project transformed the seasonal screened-in porch into a space that can be enjoyed year-round. By enclosing the space with black fiberglass windows, this project checks all the boxes for style, comfort, functionality and durability.
