Project Scope

Tucked away in the beautiful city of Clinton, Connecticut is a historic colonial style home that was in need of new windows. When these homeowners came to Pella, they made it clear that maximizing energy efficiency was important for this project. They also wanted to ensure the classic colonial style of their home was preserved. We knew just what to do to exceed these homeowners’ expectations.

Wood Windows Offer Maximum Customization

When replacing windows in a historical home, it’s important to maximize the potential for customization. For  this project, wood was the obvious choice due to its customizability. With the ability to customize wood stains, paints and shape as well as specific window features, wood windows are a great choice for any home. We were able to further the home's colonial design with the putty grille profiles, recreated with historically accurate angles – providing meaningful depth and a realistic shadow. In places with diverse seasons such as Connecticut, we recommend adding aluminum cladding to the exterior of the home’s wood windows for even more durability.

Prioritizing Energy Efficiency in Historic Home

With ample knowledge on the best materials for windows and doors for Connecticut, we knew we could provide top tier windows that would help the homeowners save money on their energy bill. For this project, we recommended wood windows because wood is a natural insulator for homes. Wood windows with Low-E insulating glass help homeowners stay cozy year-round as the engineered coating reflects heat to keep the room feeling comfortable.

White Windows Pop Against Home’s Dark Exterior

In addition to energy efficiency, these homeowners also wanted to ensure that their new colonial windows complemented the historic style of their home. We recommended white double-hung windows that would contrast beautifully against the dark exterior of their home and allow for optimized airflow throughout the space. White windows are a staple of colonial-style homes. This color choice offers a fresh, updated aesthetic while preserving the historic charm of this home.

These homeowners were pleased to see their historic home get a fresh facelift. By adding new windows, they’ll be able to enjoy warm Connecticut summers with airflow throughout their home, while also staying warm in the colder winter months thanks to the efficiency of their new windows. We hope they enjoy the comfort of their newly installed windows for years to come.
