Replacement Solarium Windows Update Historic Cincinnati Home

Located in the North Central part of Cincinnati, the eclectic Clifton Gaslight District is a picturesque, tree-lined community full of beautifully preserved homes. We met with Michael and Rob, owners of a 1905 home in this area. The solarium is their favorite place in the house to relax and enjoy Cincinnati's pleasant weather. However, the original single-pane windows without screens were limiting when the space could be used. To allow the homeowners to use the solarium year-round, we recommended Pella Lifestyle Series casement and double-hung windows.

Using a combination of double-hung and casement windows allows for a refreshing cross breeze during the warmer months. The old single-pane windows proved to be a challenge for the homeowners as they offered poor insulation. The new ones feature dual-pane glass with Low-E protection and argon between the panes. This provides great insulation during the winter months and offers year-round energy efficiency. Unlike the originals, these solarium windows have screens which allow the homeowners to enjoy fresh air without letting bugs inside.

Preserving the historic beauty of this space was a priority to the homeowners. When it comes to historic window replacements, finding the balance between authentic designs and modern convenience doesn’t have to be a challenge. We worked with the homeowners to select wood windows that provide much-needed upgrades. By adding black windows that pair well with the newly repainted walls and dark furniture in the room, we transformed the aesthetic of the home. The shift from lighter to darker tones drastically changed the look of the space to match the new feel the homeowners wanted.
