Project Details

For a contemporary new build in Minnesota, black windows and patio doors made of wood accentuate the home’s clean lines and highlight the natural surroundings. Minnesota-based contractor Detail Homes and architectural firm Charlie & Co. worked together with our Architectural Solutions team to create the luxurious custom products for this home. We were lucky enough to get a peek inside. Take yourself on a tour below and see how custom windows and doors complement the beautiful space.

Custom Black Windows Underscore Contemporary Home

For this home, clean lines and natural beauty are at the heart of the design. Throughout, custom shapes and sizes of black wood windows are used to highlight different architectural features, starting in the open concept kitchen and living area.

Black window frames continue to dominate the world of architecture and interior design, and the black casement windows used in this home make a statement that is both on-trend and enduring. The striking black windows underscore the home’s modern aesthetic, contrasting the white walls to give the room a polished, contemporary vibe. From the black interior window stain to the light fixtures, dining room chairs and cabinetry hardware, black accents punctuate the light-colored living room. Moreover, the crisp, geometric lines of the windows are reflected in the clean lines of the furniture selection.

Black Windows Frame Natural Beauty

With more than 20 black windows flooding both the living and dining rooms, this home is beautifully illuminated with natural light at every angle. Transom windows extend the height of the glass, highlighting the tall ceilings by drawing your eye upwards. Minimalist hardware and the absence of grille patterns keep the windows looking crisp and clean.

Not only do the living room windows provide abundant light, but they also create an incredible connection with the natural beauty outside. Thanks to the contrast a black window frame provides the human eye, these windows quite literally frame the view outdoors making it an integral part of the home’s design. And speaking of the outdoors, EnduraClad exterior finish helps protect these windows from the elements, ensuring beauty and performance that’s built to last.

Custom Windows Highlight Architectural Features

As you make your way upstairs, custom rectangular windows and a mid-century-style glass globe chandelier create a mesmerizing display of light. The floor-to-ceiling windows heighten the space and provide the illusion of being up in the treetops.

We love how the architects took advantage of the extra space in the intermediate landing by creating a small lounge area. The low-lying bench allows the great outdoors to take center stage. Abstract art and geometric pillows add color and balance to this clean, modern contemporary design.

A Black Bathroom Window Brightens the Space

Bathroom windows are both practical and stylish. In this space, a glass shower door allows the light from the shower window to filter into the entire room. While the rest of the home features blonde hardwood flooring, the dark flooring used in the walk-in shower and tub area separates the bathing space from the rest of the room. This gives the bathroom a resort-like feel and provides an elegant contrast to the mostly white space. The minimalist vanity, sink and faucets echo the clean lines used throughout the rest of the home and enhance the crisp, modern aesthetic of the space.

Special Shape Windows Create a Unique Wall of Glass

Without a doubt, our favorite spot in this contemporary home is the upstairs loft area, featuring a wall of glass that opens to a walk-out rooftop patio, continuing the home’s emphasis on indoor-outdoor connection. The unique triangular shape of the loft wall required a series of special shape windows and patio doors to get the desired look and functionality. With patio doors open, the rooftop space becomes a natural extension of the indoor living area.
