Project Details

When the time came to sell their South Burlington, Vermont house, these homeowners realized the need to replace their wood 3-panel patio door. The existing door looked old and damaged, so the couple reached out to Pella to replicate the original style with a new French patio door. From the exterior color and interior stains to the way the door operates, Pella was able to closely match a new patio door to the style of what already existed – and even took it a step further by improving the overall aesthetics and performance.

Wood Patio Door Offers Low-Maintenance Exterior

To prevent damage like the existing door had, Pella recommended a new wood patio door with exterior aluminum cladding. The aluminum-clad wood protection resists fading and helps protect the exterior from the effects of moisture, decay, stains from mold and mildew and termite damage. This protective finish is available in a wide variety of colors, but these homeowners chose a white patio door to match the color of their existing door. The hinged patio door arrived at the home with aluminum-cladding already on, saving time on installation and ensuring a well-coated application.

Built-In Blinds Increase Privacy and Provide Light Control

When selecting features and options for their new patio door, this couple opted for between-the-glass blinds which are window treatments tucked between the panes of glass. Pella Lifestyle Series triple-glazed products offer our best integrated blinds which are accessible and are available with raise-and-lower and tilt functionality. This provides the homeowners with light control, while still protecting the blinds from dust, pets and little hands. In turn, the couple benefits from saving on cleaning, maintenance and replacement costs.

Energy Efficiency for Savings and Comfort Year-Round

Upgrading to a new patio door also afforded these homeowners with exceptional energy efficiency to help reduce their utility bill and add comfort to their home. The low-emissivity (Low-E) glass coating on the door improves the performance of the patio door. In the winter, the glass reflects heat back into the room, keeping it warmer. In the summer, it reflects heat away from your home, keeping it cooler. The couple was also happy to know that this glass will block most of the sun’s harmful UV rays, helping to prevent their carpet, furniture and window treatments from fading. Also contributing to improved efficiency is the fact that the new hinged patio door was freshly installed. Tight seals and proper installation help the door perform at its best.

When the project was complete, the couple was pleased that Pella was able to meet the timeline for selling their home and capture the look and feel of the original patio door. Exterior aluminum cladding, built-in blinds and improved efficiency were added benefits. See more project details from the local Pella Vermont showroom.
