A custom new construction home in Decatur, Georgia used black Pella® Lifestyle Series windows and patio doors to create bright, open living spaces with strong architectural lines and uninterrupted outdoor views. Throughout the home, oversized picture windows, casement windows and expansive sliding patio doors were selected to maximize natural light while complementing the home’s modern organic design style.
Black Picture Windows Create Open Sightlines Throughout the Home
One of the defining features of this project is the extensive use of large black picture windows. Multiple rooms throughout the home incorporate oversized picture window combinations that frame outdoor views while bringing sunlight deep into the interior spaces. Tall stairwell windows, large dining room windowwalls and expansive bedroom glass all contribute to the bright, airy feel of the home.
The black window frames create contrast against the light interior walls and natural wood finishes, helping the windows become a key architectural element rather than blending into the background. In spaces with vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams, the dark frames help visually anchor the large expanses of glass.
Large Window Configurations Support the Home’s Ranch-Style Feel
Although the home features two stories, the design was intended to maintain the openness and livability often associated with ranch-style homes. Large windows throughout the main living spaces help reinforce that feeling by visually connecting rooms to the outdoors and allowing natural light to flow continuously between spaces.
Several areas of the home use mulled picture window configurations that stretch vertically and horizontally to create dramatic focal points. In the dining room, stacked picture windows extend upward to emphasize ceiling height while maintaining clean, contemporary lines.
Casement Windows Add Ventilation Without Disrupting the Design
The project also incorporates casement windows throughout bedrooms, bathrooms and secondary living spaces. Casement windows help provide ventilation while preserving the narrow sightlines and contemporary appearance used throughout the home. Matte black hardware complements the overall design aesthetic and coordinates with other dark architectural details throughout the project.
The combination of fixed picture windows and operable casement windows allowed the builder to balance expansive views with functional airflow and everyday usability.
Sliding Patio Door Opens the Living Space Outdoors
A large black 4-panel sliding patio door helps connect the main recreation area to the outdoor living space. The wide glass opening allows natural light to enter the home while creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior gathering areas. \
The large sliding door configuration supports the home’s open-concept design and reinforces the project’s emphasis on indoor-outdoor living.
