Energy-Efficient Bay Window Replacement Refreshes West Des Moines Home

For this 1970s-era brick home in West Des Moines, the homeowners wanted to update the look of their front entry while improving efficiency and expanding their view. Their existing four-wide window unit felt divided and heavy, blocking much of the natural light from reaching the living space.

Working with Pella Central Iowa, they chose a Lifestyle Series bay window featuring a large central picture window flanked by casement windows on each side. This updated configuration maintains ventilation while creating a broader, more open view to the outside.

The new bay window features Pella’s Advanced Low-E insulating glass with argon gas, offering improved energy efficiency and comfort in every season. The glass helps regulate indoor temperatures by reducing heat transfer – keeping the space cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

Each side casement includes wash-hinge hardware and Snap-In-Between-the-Glass shades, allowing for easy cleaning and light control without exterior maintenance. The white aluminum-clad exterior provides long-lasting durability, while the pine interior delivers a warm, timeless finish.

Replacing the older, segmented window with a new three-wide bay window transformed both the exterior and interior of the home. From the curb, the crisp white window frames contrasts beautifully with the brick façade, giving the entryway a brighter, more modern appearance.
