This Sioux Falls home’s backyard was already a standout, but the homeowners wanted to take it to the next level. With the help of NRG Homes, they envisioned a new pool house that wasn’t just a place to change or store gear—but a destination all its own. The goal was an open space that would support everything from pool parties and game days to quiet evenings with the family.
To help them achieve their vision, the team needed doors that could disappear—opening the structure completely to the pool and surrounding patio. But those doors also had to hold up to the South Dakota climate and work with the modern architecture of the home.
Why Multi-Slide Pool House Doors Were the Perfect Fit
Pella’s 250 Series multi-slide vinyl doors offered the perfect combination of style, functionality and performance. With sleek, low-maintenance vinyl frames and wide expanses of glass, these sliding doors gave the homeowners the open feel they wanted, while maintaining energy efficiency and security.
Two oversized configurations—a 12-foot and an 18-foot unit—were used to create nearly full-width openings on two sides of the pool house. When open, the panels slide neatly into a pocket, eliminating any sense of boundary between indoors and out. When closed, they still offer a clear view of the pool area, while protecting the interior from the elements.
These doors also come with optional features like dual- or triple-pane glass, insulating frames and advanced locking hardware—perfect for giving the space all-season usability and peace of mind.
Thermally Efficient Sliding Doors for All Seasons
While large sliding doors are great for warm weather, they also need to perform when temperatures drop. That’s one of the key reasons the homeowners chose Pella’s 250 Series Vinyl Patio Doors. These vinyl multi-slide doors are designed to handle the freeze-thaw cycles of Midwestern winters while keeping the interior space warm and comfortable.
Features like multi-chambered frames, Low-E insulating glass and weathertight sealing all help maintain indoor temperatures—even in the cold. And during summer, the glass helps block solar heat gain, making it easier to keep the space cool without overworking the HVAC system.
So, while the look says summer escape, the performance is built for all four seasons.
Durable and Stylish Picture Windows Complete the Look
Above the multi-slide doors, additional windows were installed to bring even more light into the space and complement the tall, vaulted ceilings. The team selected fiberglass picture windows known for their clean lines and incredibly strong fiberglass frames.
- Picture windows above the sliding doors create a clerestory effect, allowing natural light to pour into the pool house even when the doors are closed.
- Made from proprietary fiberglass, Pella Impervia windows are built to withstand extreme heat and cold—perfect for the variable South Dakota climate. The black frames add a crisp, modern contrast against the light stone and siding, echoing the finish on the multi-slide doors for a cohesive aesthetic.
From the inside, these upper windows bring a sense of height and openness that enhances the pool house’s airy, upscale feel.
A Modern Look That Elevates the Entire Backyard
Architecturally, the pool house complements the main home and elevates the entire backyard aesthetic. Its clean lines, natural stonework and dark-framed doors strike a modern, timeless balance. And the sliding doors enhance that look—offering a streamlined alternative to more traditional French or hinged doors.
The black-on-black finish of the multi-slide frames pairs seamlessly with the home’s exterior palette, while large glass panels enhance natural light and visual connection. It's a cohesive design that brings together form and function in every detail.
Custom Door Solutions, Expert Support
As with all great home projects, collaboration was key. The homeowners worked closely with their builder, NRG Homes, and the Pella team to find just the right solution for their vision. Our team was able to help guide the product selection process—explaining benefits, configurations and options to help the homeowners make informed choices.
The result is a pool house that feels luxurious but livable—custom-designed for the family’s lifestyle and built to last. Whether you're building a new pool house, upgrading a patio or remodeling your backyard retreat, multi-slide doors can open your space in more ways than one.
