#PellaView: Minneapolis Energy Efficient Home
When John and Diana Sanny bought their St. Paul, Minn. home in 1996, they were ready to settle down and raise the family they’d started. Twenty years, countless memories and a few renovations later, the couple reflects on those experiences and how vinyl replacement windows have enhanced the value of their treasured home.
Pella: Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
John Sanny: I’m a United States Professional Tennis Association certified tennis professional, and I also teach in the kinesiology department at the University of Minnesota. Diana is administrator at slashBlue.
As a family, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
We love to camp, hike, play tennis and travel. In true Minnesota fashion, we love the distinct four seasons and we are avid cross country skiers.
We also founded and direct a non-profit service project organization in the mountains of Jamaica every summer called Servanteers International. Through this organization, we serve communities, and develop and construct new buildings that are needed.
What makes your house feel like home?
We’ve raised four kids through high school and college in this house, and enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and long-term residents. Living in the St. Paul area is great because we are close to a little bit of everything – schools, shopping malls, forests, lakes, bike trails, etc.
What made you decide to replace your windows last year?
Our house was not keeping itself warm. It was very drafty with old windows. We knew that replacement would help us conserve energy and save money both in winter and in summer, so we started exploring our options.
We ended up running into Mike Conrad, who works at the Pella showroom in the Twin Cities, at the State Fair Pella booth. He was confident, cordial, and a good listener, and so we felt comfortable pursuing replacement by Pella.
What windows did you end up selecting and what drew you to choose that particular product?
In the end we chose Pella’s 250 series vinyl windows. We got them because of the better price for the whole house compared to other window and door companies, and Pella also had more variety and better quality.
How has your comfort improved since replacing your windows?
The new windows have added so much more light to our space. They’ve also cut our electric bill in half and improved the overall quality of the house, which is looking really good these days.
If you think your windows might be in need of replacement, I’d highly recommend looking into it. New windows improve the equity of the house and the energy savings have been significant for us. We’re paying monthly on a five-year no interest on these windows. The money we’re saving on the electric bill more than pays for the monthly cost of the window loan.
