After seven years of hard work and honing their craft, the team at Jake Hulet Construction has earned their reputation as one of Southern Utah’s premier custom home builders. Today, we’re taking you on a tour of their recent modern farmhouse creation, which received “People’s Choice” and “Best Interior Design” at the 2018 ICHBA Festival of Homes.
The Cedar City home makes a beautiful first impression with its combination of alabaster siding and brick, custom wood accents, rustic black shingles and black Pella® Impervia® windows.

Beyond the home’s custom alder wood door, an arched accent mirror, lantern and other rustic décor elements add whimsy and charm to the open floor plan.
Every key characteristic of modern farmhouse design and architecture is represented here, especially when it comes to natural light. With durable windows on just about every wall, the abundance of natural light perfectly complements the interior’s warm light fixtures.

In the dining room, a pair of double-hung windows illuminates a rustic table setting that’s perfect for family or social gatherings. The natural wood ceiling beams run opposite of the striped linen rug, creating both movement and balance.
To add to the space’s natural feel, Aspen Design mounted a trio of herbs on framed canvas behind the table. On the table runner, a vase of baby’s breath completes the look.
The kitchen is open to the living and dining rooms, making it a spacious place for both cooking and conversation. Glass pendants and upholstered bar stools add a touch of glam to the simple, clean lines made by the island and cabinets.
Notice how the wood ceiling beams run vertical to the dining room’s horizontal beams? This extra detail not only adds contrast but also helps create a seamless flow from room to room on the first floor.
Looking out from the kitchen, the living room provides the perfect setting to relax and unwind after a long day. A wood burning fireplace and farmhouse chandelier give the design warmth and authenticity.
Behind the slipcovered sofa, a wall of black window frames and white, airy curtains complete the look while adding long-lasting light to every surface and space.
