A new contemporary style kitchen with matte black hardware

Our Four Favorite Fall Interior Design Trends

As the days grow shorter and temperatures dip, we’re already looking forward to sweater weather and the entertaining opportunities that the fall season brings.

We asked a few industry experts which interior design trends they’re focusing on for the upcoming season. By incorporating a few of these fall interior design trends, you can keep your home looking chic and stylish.

Matte Black Décor
Décor incorporating dark shades like matte black are going to be in this fall. “As autumn arrives, colors in fashion and home decor naturally become a bit darker, but this year, interior designers are really playing with the rich pigments and mysterious allure of moody hues. Dark walls are often associated with a more modern style, but they can actually enrich a traditional style as well, with their aura of drama and grandeur." Kathy Kuo, kathykuohome.com, @kathykuohome

If you find yourself drawn to this theme, matte black is an available color for a variety of Pella’s hardware.

A Touch of Blush
“I’m loving vintage-inspired rooms with dreamy qualities and pops of blush pink, which is a huge trend this season. I'm currently freshening up my staircase with a pink-based tan, to stay on trend and give it a fresh modern appeal.” Tammy Damore, tammydamore.com, @thecultivatedhome

Dark and Moody Colors
Whether on walls or furniture, whites and bleached woods are out, replaced by the trend of colors that reflect a dramatic mood.  “Deep jewel tones, like emerald green or amethyst, which are found in nature are popular.” Heather Higgins, Higgins Design Studio

“The trend I’ve been loving – and one that I think will continue to go strong through the coming seasons – is the use of deep, moody green. When mixed with just a touch of black, this color looks gorgeous on walls and cabinets and in home decor accents. Secretly, I’m thrilled that these more traditional colors are making such a strong comeback.” Kim Vargo, yellowbrickhome.com, @yellowbrickhome

Displaying Collections That Tell a Story
Here’s a fall interior design trend for you to follow this season: make personal collections or mementos the centerpiece of your fall decorating. "Sharing collectibles, whether books, art or a grouping of like items in a space, not only adds personality but offers conversation pieces. Design is about confidence in who you are and what you love." Nyla Free, Nyla Free Designs, @nylafree
