When did you start blogging?
I have a masters in elementary education and taught for five years before my first son was born in 1999. After becoming a stay-at-home mom, I found my passion for blogging and have loved every minute of it since I started in 2009.

You grew up around a farm environment. How has that experience influenced you and your design style as an adult?
The times I got to go to my Aunt Tassy and Uncle Tommy's farm are definitely my most precious childhood memories! I loved everything about their home – the fresh farm air, the wildflowers in the field, the fresh strawberries in the garden and the smell of hay in the barn. Being on their farm filled up all of my senses, and it is another reason I try to bring those same feelings in my own home today.

As a designer and blogger, what inspires you?
When I am decorating my home or designing new projects, I am always drawn to things that stir up emotions in me. I guess that is why I tend to decorate with a farmhouse feel. I love decorating with items that have a special meaning. It makes my heart smile.

You don't live on a farm now, but you do own a ranch house that you are DIYing into a farmhouse. How is the home renovation process going?
When we purchased our 1,400-square-foot ranch five years ago, it had nothing that I wanted in a home. The only thing I liked about it was the five acres it sat on and the potential it had to be transformed into a beautiful, modern farmhouse.

As a mom of four boys at the time, I knew they would be able to make many of the same wonderful childhood memories on our new property that I did on my Aunt Tassy and Uncle Tommy's farm. I also knew that we had plenty of space to build onto our basic ranch home, and I was excited to add farmhouse character and charm during the process. It’s been a long journey, but little by little we are making progress toward that dream farmhouse.

Describe your home in three words.
Cozy, relaxed and collected.

And your design style?
Modern farmhouse.

What is your interior design philosophy?
Decorate with things you love and that make you smile.

Tell us about a favorite room you recently renovated.
My favorite room renovation is one that I am currently in the process of completing. We added a small room to the back of our house that will be our new laundry room. It’s a large, light and airy space with expansive windows, and I’m super excited about it. I've always had small, cramped laundry rooms, and I know that I will enjoy having a lot of space in this new room. I also got a new washer and dryer for the first time in long time and that is the icing on the cake!

How can windows and doors impact a space?
In my opinion, the more windows a house has, the better it looks – both on the outside and the inside. You can never have too much natural light, and large windows can help make every room look more crisp and welcoming.

Depending on what style you choose, doors can add a lot of character to a room too. I always think a vibrant door color is a great way to bring personality and pizazz into a space.

Best piece of home advice you've ever received?
"Don't rush the decorating process." It takes time to get your home where you want it to be. Just enjoy the process.

Best piece of home advice you've ever given?
"Worry about it tomorrow." Sometimes decorating your home or working on DIY projects can be stressful. Try to keep everything in perspective as you work toward your home renovation goals. There are more important things in life than the way your home looks.
