My #PellaView: First-Time Homeowners Up Their Curb Appeal With a New Garage Door

When Alicia Griffeth and her fiancé Derek bought a 37-year-old house in Scottsdale, Ariz., they knew it was going to need a few updates. From fresh paint and new décor to replacement windows and a garage door, the list of project renovations quickly grew long. The first thing on Alicia’s list? A new garage door. Read about how this couple transformed the look and value of their home while relishing in the excitement of being first-time homeowners.

Tell us a little bit about your home.
The unique thing about our home is that it happens to be about eight blocks east of where I grew up. Derek and I are three-tenths of a mile from a large park, where as a little girl I used to have my birthday parties and tee-ball games. Now I go on my morning runs around the park. It feels pretty full circle as my fiancé and I are about to get married and settle down.

What do you love about your home? What makes it feel like "home"?
What makes it home is knowing that it’s fully ours and that we bought it together. As first-time homeowners, it's pretty exciting. I love the character of our house. We have a double-faced brick fireplace, a great floor plan and a pool in the backyard. There is also plenty of room for our Labrador puppy to run around.

When did you realize that you needed a new garage door?
When we bought the house, I knew I wanted a gorgeous white carriage-style garage door. Coincidentally, our previous garage door stopped working so it was a great excuse! Since we go into Lowe's a lot as homeowners, we checked out the in-store options there and learned about Pella garage doors. Shortly after that, the team from Lowe’s installed a Colsburg door – and the whole process went well.

How did you end up choosing Pella?
My fiancé did a lot of research around garage door quality and found that Pella is a top brand in the market and has a great perceived value when selling a home.

How did you feel once the new garage door was installed? What do you enjoy about it?

I think a garage door for a home is almost like the jewelry you put on to complete your outfit. The white carriage-style garage door with windows immediately changed the whole look and feel of the house. We love it and so does everybody who comes over to visit us.

What other home improvement projects do you have your sights set on?
We are working toward replacing all of the windows in our house, so that is next!
