Choosing a Window Type

Which window fits your life and style?

Your new windows should not only match the architectural style of your home, but also your lifestyle.

Casement Windows

Casement windows

A great choice for those who desire easy operation with no reaching - they open and close outward with the quick turn of a handle, and Pella’s Unison Lock system secures the window in two places with one easy-to-reach lever. The single sash of a casement window also gives you a clear view to the outdoors.

Best uses:

  • Contemporary-style homes.
  • Hard-to-reach places like over a bathtub or kitchen sink.

Awning Windows

Awning windows

Awning windows easily open and shut with one handle. They are good for rainy climates, because they can be open during a gentle rain without letting water in.

Best uses:

  • Above or below other windows or above doors.
  • Hard-to-reach places like over a bathtub or kitchen sink.

Double Hung Windows

Double-hung windows

Double-hung windows combine a traditional style with ventilation flexibility. Both sashes open — a little or a lot. To open the windows, you raise or lower each sash. For natural ventilation control, lower the top sash to let the warm air that rises to the ceiling outside, or raise the bottom sash to let cool air flow inside.

Best uses:

  • Traditional-style homes.
  • Easy-to-reach locations in the home.

Single Hung Windows

Single-hung windows

Single-hung windows have a traditional style and open by raising the bottom sash. Since only the bottom sash moves, reaching is minimized. They are typically less expensive than double-hung windows.

Best uses:

  • Traditional-style homes.
  • Easy-to-reach places.

Sliding Windows

Sliding windows

Sliding windows have one sliding sash that moves horizontally so there is no reaching involved.

Best uses:

  • Contemporary-style homes.

Bay and Bow Windows

Bay and Bow windows

Even with limited wall space, a bay or bow window allows you to have more windows to capture the view.

Best uses:

  • Traditional-style homes.
  • Rooms with attractive views.

Fixed Windows

Fixed windows

Since they do not open, fixed windows’ job is to let in light and show off your view ― they are extremely energy efficient. They can also provide a strong focal point for the interior and exterior of your home.

Best uses:

  • Any style of home ― from classic to contemporary, trendy or traditional.

Special Shape Windows

Special Shape windows

Angled and curved windows allow you to “think outside the box” and let your creativity show. You can use them to highlight other architectural features in your home, like a fireplace, or they can be used alone in walls where space is tight, like a stair landing.

Best uses:

  • Anywhere architectural interest is desired.
