Project Details

This Philadelphia home entry was due for a face lift. The existing front door was old and damaged with paint peeling and wood beginning to rot. The homeowners wanted to improve the quality of their front door while updating the overall aesthetic of their entryway. They decided to replace their existing door with a fiberglass front door to maintain the beautiful look of wood without the maintenance.

Craftsman Front Door Updates Entryway Aesthetic

When it came time for the replacement project, the homeowners knew they wanted to carry over some of the stylistic elements of their existing door. The new craftsman style front door mirrors the look of the previous door by including glass with grilles, a dentil shelf and a transom window. The grilles on the front door glass create the authentic look of divided light, bringing architectural interest to the entrance of the home. The hallmark of a craftsman style front door is the dentil shelf below the glass which adds dimension and design interest. While the homeowners wanted to maintain the look of wood, they opted to modernize their new front door by painting it black. Compared to the old white front door, the new black front door creates a bold statement by contrasting the red brick of the home.

Energy-Efficient Glass Welcomes Natural Light into Home

The fiberglass front door with glass features Low-E insulating glass which helps protect flooring and furniture from fade damage. The updated transom window above the new front door also features energy-efficient glass. The Low-E glass helps reduce heat loss in the winter by reflecting heat back into the home and keep the interior cool in the summer by reflecting UV rays away from the home.
